Flying Kites – with pictures by Henry
Banana’s younger brother, George came back to the farm again on holiday. This time he brought his friend Henry, the orange monkey, with him. George was a good little gorilla and helped his big brother on the farm whenever he could. However, as we know, Henry was a little monkey all the time!
One day, Bananas agreed to take George and Henry kite flying high on the moors where there was lots and lots of wind and plenty of open space.
First, George and Henry made two enormous kites from strips of wood and brown paper, all held together with string. They each painted their own kite, George made his blue with a big gold star. Henry made his orange, of course, with a picture of a big green dinosaur. Then they made tails for their kites with lots of coloured paper and tied long, long lengths of kite string to each kite.
Bananas loaded the kites on Farmer Jones big quad bike and asked George and Henry to climb into the back seats. Off they went. It was a very bumpy ride and Henry almost popped out at least three times, while George hung on as tight as he could. Finally they got to the top of the biggest hill and they all climbed out. First Bananas helped George to get his kite up in the air. Bananas held the kite while George ran as fast as he could down the hill. At the right moment, Bananas let the kite fly into the air and up, up it went.
Then he helped Henry. This time when he let go of the kite, it went straight up into the sky and lifted Henry up in the air! "Let go!" Bananas shouted. But Henry did not let go and he flew higher and higher and faster and faster, away over the hill and down into the valley. Quickly Bananas and George jumped onto the quad bike and raced off after Henry, who was still flying, and was now half way down the hill.
Down into the fields they went, bumping along and shouting after Henry. Henry was having a great time, he climbed up the kite string and was now trying to use the kite as a surf board. This was not going to work and Henry came crashing down from a great height. PLOOF - Henry fell headfirst, right into a large haystack and only his little orange legs and tail could be seen from the ground. Bananas and George tried to stop and crashed – SPLOFF – right into Henry’s haystack.

After a few minutes they all climbed out, all tangled in kite string. They climbed back on the quad bike and rode slowly home. They laughed all the way to the farm and Henry told George, "This is our best adventure ever!"
